 Sport

Students are sure to play sport in the Calgary University. There are lots of sports they can do and almost all the sport are free (except dance and yoga). In Calgary University, students can play hockey, volley, tennis, squash, American soccer, basketball or go climbing. There are dozens of athletic equipments in the campus: 5 gymnasiums, 15 squash courts, a big swimming-pool, a fitness center and an indoor track and field ground, and an Olympic ice rink.

If you want to play squash, you can book a court on the Calgary University’s intranet, you will only have to rent the rackets and buy the ball (2CA$) at your first game. If you go to the ice rink, you will only have to rent the ice skates (4CA$).

If you would rather play team sports, you can register in a team of “indoor sports” with your residence hall. They organize mini-championships with teams which only play for fun. You will have to pay about 20CA$ for each sport to play in 6 matches throughout the semester. If you want to compete in these championships, ask the administration of your residence hall from the very beginning of the semester since the students enrol early.

The university also organize outdoor activities for skiing, for hiking, for snowshoeing, for climbing mountain glacier. Actually these activities are lessons given to teams of students who have more or less the same level. These lessons are quite expensive.

Going out

There are lots of student activities in the campus. On Monday evenings, students can attend to free screenings in the big lecture room. There are two screening sessions: one begins at 6.30p.m. and the second begins at 9p.m. You can enjoy an open-pop-corn if you pay only 1CA$. So try not to have lessons in the evening on Monday.

The campus’ bar Den throw a party for exchange students every Wednesday night. A pint of beer costs 8 CA$. The biggest parties thrown by the Den bar are on Thursday.
