In the University of Calgary, students can live in residence hall inside the campus. This kind of lodging is the more profitable, since the rooms in residence halls are cheaper than studio apartments in the town center. Living in the campus will enables you to make the most of the numerous facilities for students. Moreover, living in student residence hall will enables you to make bonds with Canadian students and others exchange students. Exchange students should better apply for a room in the residence hall as soon as they register in the University of Calgary. There are different kinds of lodgings you can live in:

-a single apartment studio

-a double apartment studio, equipped with a lounge, a small kitchen, a bathroom a room with toilets and a washbowl

-a 4-people apartment studio with a big lounge, a small kitchen, 4 rooms, a bathroom with toilets and a room with 2 shower units and 2 washbowls.

 

The residence halls are very pleasant and are surrounded with pine trees. The lodgings are spacious and you can go to the Dinning Center of the university through underground tunnels.

When you arrive at the university you will have to go to the Dinning Center to sign your rental agreement and to collect your keys.

Students can only move in their rooms one day before the start of the new school year, so choose wisely the day you start the semester. If you arrive too early, book a room in an hotel or in a youth hotel and ask the administration of the university if you can make “an early arrival”. If you have to spend an overnight stay in a youth hostel, go to the Calgary Youth Hostel where each overnight stay costs about 20CA$. You can take the C-train and stop at the Olympic Plaza station. Outside of the campus, the differences between the prices of the apartments are due to the differences of luxury. The more expensive an apartment is, the more spacious it is, and the more furniture it has, like TV for example. Allow between 2.300CA$ and 4.500CA$ to pay your rent for 4 month, according to the luxury of the apartment.

There is no kitchenware in the apartments, you can buy what you need at Wal-Mart or at Ikea near the campus, it is quite cheap. The University organize at the beginning of every semester a supply of the items left by other students, go to the CISSA as soon as you arrive in the campus to get some of these items.
